Operating System
Installation
This flat fee
is charged when we install an operating system such as Microsoft
Windows 98, Windows XP, Windows Vista or McIntosh OS X. OS X installations
are $40, Windows installations are $60.
An operating
system install will need to be done, when a machine is not bootable
anymore after a severe hardware failure, severe software corruption/malfunction
or severe malware/spyware/virus infections. Most of the time, this
installation fee is charged in addition to a system
diagnostic fee ($30), and with that the hardware that needed
to be replaced in order to fix a particular problem.
Most severe
hardware failures that require us to re-install an operating system
are related to defective hard drives. Hence, the hard
drive installation fee will be charged in addition to the hard
drive cost.
When we install
an operating system, we will install all device drivers if they
can be obtained easily from the appropriate manufacturers web sites
or our extensive driver library. Device drivers are the devices
needed to make all parts of a computer work with the operating system.
E.g., a device driver for sound will need to be installed in order
to make the sound work, or a device driver for video will need to
be installed in order to be able to display video correctly with
all colours.
For us to proceed
with Windows Installations, we will need your disk(s) and license.
Most Windows XP installations will come on computers that have a
Windows xp sticker on the side or rear of the case. We can install
operating systems without your disks in those cases.
If an operating
system is not available or cannot be located, a license and disks
can be purchased. Here
are the costs.
There is no
warranties or guarantees on operating system installations.
